About Docomomo Thailand

Since Docomomo's founding in 1988, Docomomo has earned itself an international reputation for its outstanding work in documentation and conservation of the architecture in Modern Movement, for its unremitting efforts to enhance academic exchange of experiences on modern architecture protection, and for its prominent contribution to involving the public in the conservation of buildings, sites and neighbourhoods in the 20th century.

The 20th century, as a witness of the most rapid, dramatic as well as the grandest change ever happened in human history, is left with abundant heritage of modern architecture. Thailand, in the process of rapid modernization and reform, is faced with unprecedented challenge in the conservation of modern architecture.

The Association of Siamese Architects Under Royal Patronage (ASA) is presently the home to all work programs on Architectural Heritage in Thailand. Therefore, ASA is bestowed with predominant advantages to serve as the ideal platform in Thailand for the exchange and collaboration with such international organizations as DOCOMOMO.

In order to advance the conservation of modern architecture heritage in Thailand, and to make further contribution to this great cause on a global basis, Docomomo Thailand, supported by the Association of Siamese Architects Under Royal Patronage (ASA), applied for the membership of DOCOMOMO, and asked for the consent of establishing the Thai Chapter DOCOMOMO at the Association of Siamese Architects Under Royal Patronage (ASA).

At the 13th DOCOMOMO Council Meeting Seoul which was held on 26 September 2014.Thailand was approved as a new DOCOMOMO Working Party.
